May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental health has been a public health crisis for a long time, but due to the pandemic, we are in the middle of a public health crisis.

The purpose of Mental Health Awareness Month is to fight the stigma attached to mental illness by raising awareness and being an advocate for a better mental health care system.

Each year millions of Americans face day to day living with mental illness yet, nearly 2/3 of people with a known mental illness never seek treatment. Therefore, it is important to erase the stigma attached to mental illness. Erasing the stigma could help remove barriers preventing people from getting help.

Bottom line is its okay to not be okay.

Mental illness runs in my family. I had a brother complete suicide and have been an advocate for mental health ever since. I have felt a calling to help others by leading them to sources for help and helping them use tools such as breathing techniques to help support their mood.

Natural methods help like:

  • Breathing techniques
  • Moving
  • Reflecting and journaling
  • BUT
  • Seeking support is number 1

Mental health is something we all need to work at every single day. And now with the effects of COVID-19 we have a pandemic within a pandemic among us all, particularly among younger people.

Since the Pandemic, research has been studied widely by researchers on the mood response during the last few years.

Studies are finding that participants have reported predominantly negative emotions/moods such as anxiety, worry, sadness, fear, and anger to name a few.

Just the other day I came across a Mayo clinic article called COVID-19 and your mental health.

You can read it here.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/mental-health-covid-19/art-20482731#:~:text=During%20the%20COVID%2D19,depression%2C%20can%20worsen.

In the article they talk about self-care strategies that can help.

1) Take care of your BODY

2) Take care of your MIND

3) Connect with others, which I feel is taking care of your SPIRIT!

In addition to the pandemic, we have worldly events that can cause negative emotions/moods. Add to all the above mentioned, the normal challenges in our lives like stress related to work, navigating health concerns with loved ones and more.

Looks like we could all use some Rest and Relaxation woven into our lives.

I have been working on a new program that I would like to call an experience. It is called Teatime with Kimberly and is near and dear to my heart.

I have been studying and yes, experiencing trauma and mood informed techniques such as breathing, easy/gently flowing movement, mindfulness, and reflection with journaling. It is such a life changer that I had to design a series and share all the secrets with you. All in hopes that you will experience similar results. If you are coming from a hectic life, this 4-week experience can be just what you were looking for.
