Tending our Garden

Can you believe September is here in a few days?!
It was a fantastic summer for my family. We celebrated two weddings on the Moser side. One was in beautiful South Carolina and one back in the Buckeye State in Columbus. On August 22, we moved our beautiful girl into a new townhome for her 2nd year of college at Texas A&M. All is good, and I am grateful for so many things, but I will be honest and tell you I felt a sense of stress with the lazy summer leaving us and the busy fall approaching. I was talking to a few friends, and they felt the same. Maybe it was our Texas hot summer or seeing Christmas decorations in Costco already. With school starting, there is added stress, even if you don’t have children, like the traffic getting out of the neighborhood.

This morning I was looking at my summer garden and planning my fall garden. This summer, our garden wasn’t our best. Extreme heat and lack of water till the end were not the environments the garden needed to flourish. Add traveling to that list, and we didn’t give it the love it desperately needed.
So, as we pulled out weeds and dead plants, it made me think about how our mind, body, and spirit are a lot like a garden. What we water will grow, and what we allow into our lives will affect that growth. We must eliminate weeds – stress, anxiety, fears, and bad habits. And, we need to tend to our mind, body, and spirit with what it needs. It’s a balance.
I always tell my clients that we need to create a strong foundation. A strong foundation in our feet is like roots connecting a tree to the ground. We also need a strong foundation in our hearts and mind to help us navigate life. I was thinking how bad habits like negative thinking, not moving, and not taking care of ourselves are like weeds choking our ability to grow.
Are your roots free and creating a solid foundation helping you grow? Or are your roots choking with weeds?
So, I am ready to do some weeding and watering this fall to reset and help me find physical and mental balance.
